Cruise Shipping Miami 2014: Saint Lawrence Destination takes bows on international stage

A 25-member delegation from Québec is taking part this week in the leading international cruise industry trade show: Cruise Shipping Miami. Saint Lawrence Destination has distinguished itself on the international stage with three Cruise Insight Awards, one each to our ports of call at Québec, Saguenay and Trois-Rivières.

The 30th edition of this industry event has attracted over 900 exhibitors from 127 different countries, including all currently recognized international cruise destinations.

Each year, prestigious Cruise Insight magazine presents the winners of the highly coveted Cruise Insight Awards which recognize exceptional performance by ports and destinations worldwide. Port of Québec received the ‘Most Efficient Terminal Operation’ award for demonstrated efficiency in ship greeting operations. For the third year, our port of call at Saguenay took top honours in the ‘Best Port Welcome’ category, doubtless a tribute to the characters from La Fabuleuse histoire d’un royaume who welcome cruiseshippers into port. In recognition of efforts deployed to adapt local infrastructure to cruiseshipping needs, our port of call at Trois Rivières received the ‘Most Improved Port Facilities’ award. These honours yet again provide proof positive of destination potential while reinforcing the development strategy instituted by Tourism Québec to raise the profile of Cruise the Saint Lawrence in cruise industry circles.

As the week progresses, our delegation will continue to extol the virtues of Québec through business meetings scheduled with attendees. These meetings will enable Cruise the Saint Lawrence to finetune details of the 2014 season and to confirm cruise company bookings for 2015 and 2016. During the event, meetings will be conducted with representatives from a total of 20 different cruise companies. Delegates will also take part in conferences on cruise market trends and challenges in the years ahead.

Priscilla Nemey, President of Cruise the Saint Lawrence (CSL), had the following to say about the event and onsite proceedings: "This grand annual gathering has again proven ripe with opportunity for our destination. The event allowed us to consolidate relations with cruise industry executives and to position ourselves as an international cruise destination of choice throughout the entirety of the Saint Lawrence cruise shipping season."

Cruise the Saint Lawrence groups together partners committed to the promotion and development of the nine ports of call located along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River. The association receives financial support from Economic Development Canada, Tourism Québec and industry partners. The mission of the organization is to position Destination Saint Lawrence with cruise companies by defining and coordinating development efforts and partner/port of call attributes, the ultimate aim being to build a genuine ‘Cruise the Saint Lawrence’ brand.
