    Discover the Morrin Centre

    Built over 200 years ago to house one of Quebec City's first municipal prisons, the Morrin Centre is now home to one of the world's most beautiful libraries. Come discover this National Historic Site. Walk through the sinister jail cells; see graffiti carved into the floors by inmates, the iron rings used to chain them down; and the place where the condemned were hanged. Visit the intriguing chemistry laboratory hidden upstairs, as well as the other classrooms of the Morrin College open from 1868 to 1902. Then, let yourself be spellbound by the haunting stories surrounding the Victorian library, home to a collection of literary gems, some of which date back to the 16th century.

    The Citadelle, also called the Gibraltar of America, is a national monument located on Cap Diamant. Built from 1820 to 1850, its star-shaped layout is characteristic of Vauban fortifications. The site is open to visitors during guided tours of the Musée Royal 22e Régiment.

    Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site of Canada

    In the company of an interpreter-guide, take a stroll over, under and inside the walls to discover four centuries of Québec history while exploring the ingenuity of the city's defence system. A jewel of the provincial capital, the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site is a reminder of the richness of the city's military past. The site takes us back to the French and British regimes when Québec played a deciding role in the defence of the colony. Stroll along the fortification walls and admire the work of highly skilled craftsmen.
