Time out in Baie-Comeau

Jardin des Glaciers
Between September 23rd and October 17th, Baie-Comeau will be welcoming 6 cruise ships into port. During this period, the team at Baie-Comeau will be doing their utmost to create moments to remember for the some 5800 visitors expected to disembark.

For many, the stopover will include a full day tour of the Jardin des Glaciers (Garden of the Glaciers). Set on the shores of the Saint Lawrence River in the heart of the Manicouagan-Uapishka World Biosphere Reserve, the Jardin des Glaciers features a mix of interpretive, experiential and educational activities in a location as exceptional as it is unique. The venue comprises a number of different zones such as the Glacier Exploration Station where the magic of multimedia transports visitors back through 20 000 years of history in an effort to provide them with an enhanced understanding of the impact of the glaciers and glacial melting on the First Nations peoples and the Baie-Comeau region. Those will a penchant for more extreme experiences will delight in the Adrenaline Zone. There they will discover breathtaking countryscapes through exciting activities such as via ferratas, ziplines, water-based pursuits, climbing walls, sea kayaking, hiking and much more.

For individuals aspiring to a less challenging visitor experience, we suggest a visit to Pointe-aux-Outardes Nature Park. The park's network of trails, which you are free to explore on your own or in the company of an experienced guide, will introduce you to the region's flora and fauna, take you past a salt marsh, and lead you out to sand dunes and beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. Only the singing of the birds will contrast with the silence of place.

Passengers interested in a more relaxing onshore experience are invited to stroll into the city centre and mingle with the people. Recently completed development work will ensure that visitors on foot spend an enjoyable day discovering the city and the warm welcoming ways of the local merchants. There are no better places than terraces and bistros to strike up conversations with inhabitants from across the region. Passengers calling into port will be delighted to discover a welcoming people eager to share tales about the region that they call home. When planning a cruise on the Saint Lawrence, consult the list of excursions and activities available at Baie-Comeau!
